Hockey Canada’s Mission Statement "The mission of Hockey Canada is to lead, develop, and promote positive hockey experiences." Uxbridge Stars Minor Hockey Association "Together we can achieve our goals of improving hockey, and keeping Uxbridge a respected hockey town." Player Code of Conduct
As a player with the Uxbridge Minor Hockey Organization I will: • Play by the rules of hockey, and in the spirit of the game • Respect my opponents, without them there would be no game • Respect all arenas that I play in • Respect all game officials at all times • Show my coach respect and dedication • Remember that practises are more important than games • Remember that I am representing Uxbridge Minor Hockey Parent’s Code of Conduct
As a parent and a member of the Uxbridge Minor Hockey Association I will: • Remember these players are young amateur players not professionals, and cannot be judged by professional standards • Respect all game officials at all times • Appreciate and respect my child’s coach • Support all efforts to remove all verbal abuse from children’s hockey games • Remember that I am representing Uxbridge and setting an example that children will follow • Enforce the fact that practises are more important than games Coach’s Mission Statement
As a coaching staff we are going to provide the upmost professionalism both on and off the ice. We are committing our time away from family and friends to teach the boys the game of hockey. We expect 100% attention from your boy for the small amount of time we have with them each week. There are going to be growing pains. As we all know learning a young man’s personality, is half the battle to being an effective coach and mentor. We will try and be prepared before every game and practice with set drills, based on mistakes made in the previous games. We are also going to be running with a system type game style. This will be established after determining each players strengths and weaknesses and thus the team’s strengths and weaknesses. Discipline
I am confident that we will not encounter many challenges in this area; however, if we do we will deal with problems promptly and directly. If any disrespect is shown to any one of the coaching staff or to a fellow player, the offending player will be asked to leave the ice and get changed. The incident will be reported to the parent for their remediation. It is imperative that it is understood that other players are on the ice to learn and enjoy the game of hockey, and that disruption will not be tolerated. This may sound like a hard line, but it works! There will be lots of time for the players to have down time throughout the year. During this time; the boys can be boys… as they usually are. Ice Time
Our philosophy is that all boys cannot be a 50 goal scorer, and not all players are willing to play the defensive role, and indeed some players see this position as boring… our defense coach would no doubt, take exception to this opinion. After we have had an opportunity to fully evaluate the players, we will assign team roles, possible first power play role, maybe penalty killing. At this time or at any time, all roles are subject to change and are not set in stone. As far as benching, if the players are to commit 100% of their attention to the game there should be no reason for a benching. None of us like to sit, so it will be a last resort. Games and Practises
On game days we need the boys to arrive 40 minutes before game time and they are to report directly to the dressing room. They must place their street cloths neatly on the hanger behind them and put on a pair of shorts, there under armor, and running shoes. Running shoes should be left in their hockey bag between games. A light workout will be conducted by one of the staff for 10 to 15 minutes and then the player will dress for the game. There will be a 5 minute talk before game. We are going to be prepared before game night, so that there is no need for 15 minute chalk talks. In the event of back-to-back games, we will advise you if the player needs to be there earlier than usual. For practises, we do not care when they get there, however, if a player is not ready to go on ice when the Zamboni door closes he will be asked to dress in his street cloths and return home. We all lead busy lives and understand there may be reasons for being late. If you anticipate being late call ahead and let us know and that’s acceptable. If being late is a chronic problem with a player, we will request a meeting with the player’s parent to ascertain the nature of the problem and work on a solution. Again, if unfortunately there is a delay, make a call…it only takes a second. Dress Code
All players will wear Uxbridge Stars Jackets, the style of jacket will be decided on by the coaching staff. The jacket should be worn with a shirt, tie, black pants (not jeans please) and casual dress shoe. There will be no baseball caps worn to or from hockey nights! During the winter months the boys can wear the toques of their choice. During tournaments, players can wear wind pants and whatever shirt they want with their coats, unless, as a team, they decide to wear something specific. Tournaments
We will be playing in a minimum of three tournaments plus a Spring Tournament. The spring tournament will be an opportunity for the staff to meet the players in a relaxed atmosphere; it is on the 29-30-31st of May. The other three tournaments will be selected by the staff and will be posted far in advance. We have tentatively booked one of the three tournaments as a travel tourney to Pittsburgh during the Weekend of Nov.6-7-8th. This event still has to be approved by the Uxbridge Minor Hockey Association executive. Be prepared…players and parents will need passports. Expense Funding
It is requested that each player initially contribute $400 to be used for expenses that will no doubt be occurring such as: on ice activities, and deposits for Tournaments. This will also be in place to pay for Assistant Coaches and Managers’ hotel rooms, and any clothing that has Stars Logo on it. I will pay for my own clothing. Also it will provide initially for any out of pocket expense for the Manager or Coaching Staff e.g. long distance calls, printing etc. This contribution can be paid in two installments of $200 each: one immediately, tonight if possible, and one mid August, when our summer skates start. Fundraising
The fundraiser is well established for this team. It is up to the parents to decide if you would like to participate in the fundraiser. If you would prefer not to participate in the fundraising and contribute directly to the team fund, this can be arranged with the Manager. Naturally, any surplus funds will be refunded accordingly. Summer Activities
We all have a busy summer planned with holidays and other sports. We believe, as a staff that hockey as a winter sport should come second to other summer activities. We were hoping as a coaching staff to take the boys on a team getaway for a couple of days so the new boys can meet each other and also provide the coaching staff with an opportunity to get to know the boys and their personalities off the ice. We will contact parents and staff to see if there is a suitable time for this excursion. As far as ice time goes, there is nothing before the 15th of August. However, we may see if we can get in a round of golf or two in, just to have some fun. |
